  • Child Left in Van With Defective Alarm Dies. Justice for Kids attorneys are presently investigating the death of a child in a Broward County, FL day care facility because he was left in a van that had a defective alarm that was designed in a way that makes it capable of being disabled by childcare workers. The product activates an audible alarm, within 60 seconds, of turning off the vehicle in an effort to prompt childcare workers to visually sweep the vehicle for children before locking the doors. However, due to its design, childcare workers often intentionally disable the product to avoid the audible alarm. Disabling the alarm has led to multiple deaths. Nevertheless, the manufacturer continues to market the product to governmental agencies to protect children who are trapped in vans and buses even though the manufacturer has known that these products have been, and are capable of being, disabled by untrained staff.
