Drug Abuse Facilities and Addiction Treatment
Unfortunately, there are drug treatment facilities that fail the children they are supposed to protect because they allow drugs into the facilities or fail to provide appropriate treatment. Additionally, other facilities fail to report or supervise parents who are drug addicts that expose their children to serious harm as a result of the parent’s history of addiction or an untreated condition.
- Child Suffers Permanent Brain Damage and Other Injuries Due to Malnutrition, Neglect. Florida child abuse attorneys sued child welfare agencies, a substance abuse provider, and a hospital in Pinellas County, FL on behalf of a child who suffered permanent brain damage and other injuries due to malnutrition and neglect when he was six months old. The child was born substance exposed to a mother with an extensive substance abuse history and prior child welfare history. The child was left in his mother’s care and the family was placed under voluntary “diversion” services for approximately three months. The child sustained his injuries six weeks after the diversion case closed. The case has settled as to the case management agency and another provider for an undisclosed amount.
- Teenage Child Who Was Drug Addicted Entrusted to a Miami Treatment Facility for Care and Treatment. Tragically, the child overdosed in the facility from drugs that he obtained because of lax and negligent safeguards that should have prevented children from bringing illegal drugs into the facility. Our investigator was able to interview and obtain statements from several children who previously were in treatment at the facility who would testify how the drugs were obtained.
